Do UK Citizens Need a Visa for China in 2026?
Since February 2026, UK passport holders can visit China visa-free for up to 30 days. Here's who qualifies, the rules, and the deadline to watch.
Short answer: no โ as of February 17, 2026, UK passport holders are on China's 30-day unilateral visa-free list. You can fly in, stay up to 30 days per entry, and leave without a visa application, embassy fee, or onward-ticket requirement.
Who qualifies and for what
Ordinary UK passport with 6+ months validity, stays of up to 30 days per entry, for tourism, business, family visits or transit. You're simply stamped in at the border โ no pre-registration. (You still complete the standard online arrival card before landing.)
The deadline to watch
The 30-day unilateral policy is confirmed through December 31, 2026. It's been extended in waves before, but if your trip lands near or after that date, re-verify before booking โ our visa checker shows a live countdown for your nationality.
When you'd still need a visa
Staying longer than 30 days, or travelling for work or study, means you'll need the appropriate visa from a Chinese visa centre โ a visa-free entry can't be converted to a work/study visa from inside China.
Before you fly
Online arrival card (up to 72 hours ahead), Alipay/WeChat set up with your UK card, offline maps and connectivity sorted. Check your exact status and build a day-by-day plan with FirstChinaTrip's free planner.
